The Mafube colliery is located approximately 180km east of Johannesburg, between Middleburg and Belfast, in Mpumalanga.V&M was involved with the initial project study phases and construction (in 2007) of Mafube Colliery. In 2016 the Mafube Life Extension project commenced execution and was completed in 2019. V&M is still actively involved with Stay-in-Business Projects at Mafube providing quantity surveying and contract administrative services.

Elders Colliery

The Elders Underground Access Project commenced with execution in 2022 and the mine is currently under construction to deliver first coal by Q4 2023. The project entails the construction of a completely new underground mine. V&M is assisting the project with procurement, quantity surveying and contract administration services. V&M have been involved throughout the project’s lifecycle from concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility and now execution.

Greenside Colliery – Dirty Water Handling

Greenside Colliery – Dirty Water Handling

Greenside is wholly owned by Thungela Resources (Pty) Ltd and produces coal for the export market. V&M are involved in various projects at Greenside related to the handling of polluted water caused by mining activities. Projects include the enlargement and upgrading of the pollution control dam, new and upgrading of dirty water channels and the construction of new clean water handling channels to convey stormwater.

Zibulo Underground & Opencast Coal Mining

Zibulo Underground & Opencast Coal Mining

Zibulo Colliery produces in excess of 8Mtpa of ROM, of which 90% comes from the undergound operations and the remaining being produced from opencast operations. V&M are involved in various underground and surface infrastructure projects at Zibulo Colliery, and include the Graben Development, Solar Plant Project and other ancillary SIB projects in order to ensure for mine continuity.

Isibonelo Colliery

V&M have been involved with Isibonelo Colliery since its inception. V&M assisted with the compilation of the prefeasibility and feasibility studies. This is an opencast operation to supply Sasol’s synthetic fuel plant in Secunda, Mpumalunga.
