LANDMARK VENN + MILFORD INCORPORATED PROJECTS
Venn + Milford Incorporated is a leader in the quantity surveying profession and have a proud and proven track record. We are involved in every stage of the quantity surveying process and our holistic and hands-on approach ensures our clients receive maximum benefit at all times.
In addition to our multi-disciplinary quantity surveying services, we also provide contract administration and project cost control services that stand the test of time – throughout Africa, as well as in Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey and South America.
Projects to date
Building on our successes, the spectrum of our participation in the country’s growth rapidly spread to other parts of South Africa, with more milestone projects, notably in the hotel industry. These projects included the original Holiday Inn- the first hotel to be built on Durban’s Marine Parade (1980’s). Between 1969 and 1985, we provided costings and conducted feasibility studies on a total of 20 hotel projects under the Holiday Inn banner. Later we were invited to provide these services for upgrades to 23 Southern Sun Group hotels around the country. Venn + Milford can also take credit for work conducted on a variety of other prestige hotels and game lodges throughout South Africa and beyond its borders, in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, the Commores, Uganda, Kenya, Mozambique and Ghana.
Over the decades, from quantity surveying and project management services, we have broadened our offering to include development on South African mines, both on surface and underground, with prominent projects such as Anglo American’s new Zibulo Colliery and its ground-breaking eMalahleni Water Treatment Plant. In the mining sector, our offering today includes vertical and inclined shaft sinking and development, mine rehabilitation, waste product disposal, water treatment, materials handling, process plants and contract mining as well as electrical reticulation and control and instrumentation. In this sector, our multi-disciplinary services combine to deliver world class projects in arenas such as coal, gold, copper, platinum, nickel, diamonds, uranium, iron ore, manganese and mineral sands.
As part of our enduring efforts to preserve and sustainably leverage South Africa’s natural resources, Venn + Milford Incorporated recently participated in a project, whereby water is abstracted and treated on a daily basis. During this process, treated water is pumped approximately 4km to a power station intake on the reverse osmosis plant. Waste streams are then disposed of back into the dam.
The main components of this treatment plant are:
- Abstraction of mine water
- Treatment of mine water
- Pump for distribution of treated water
- And disposal of waste brine and sludge (if any)
The overall objective of the mobile water treatment plant is to reliably treat mine water, an issue of growing importance for South Africa.
